El Salvador is in dire need of emergency support. In the midst of the COVID-19 health and economic crisis, El Salvador was hit by Tropical Storm Amanda. We are working to meet the emergency needs of those affected by the pandemic as well as victims of the storm. Keep up to date with the latest news and pictures by visiting our blog!
As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads across the globe, we are doing our best to serve our clients and community here in El Salvador. Over the last two months we have served our community by offering them space to “shelter in place” in our temporary shelter. But now it is time to transition into the next phase of our emergency response.
The coronavirus has begun to spread extensively throughout El Salvador, so we have made the transition from one large shelter into separate living situations for our clients. We will continue to support our clients during this time, and we know that there is a long road ahead of us as El Salvador faces a major economic crisis. You can read more about this transition by visiting our blog.
On Sunday, May 31, 2020 El Salvador was hit hard by Tropical Storm Amanda in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Widespread flooding and landslides have left 14 dead and hundreds displaced. As we respond to the pandemic, we are also working to meet the needs of storm victims.
We are collecting food, clothing, and other items from the list below to help serve those in need. In addition, we will need to make some repairs to our community center which sustained wind and rain damage in the storm. You can make a donation to Tropical Storm Amanda relief by following the links below.
We also serve many clients that do have a place to live, but are still very vulnerable. The majority of them are unemployed, or they are working in the informal sector. This means that if they can’t work, they can’t eat. Because the quarantine has closed down markets and movement, our clients have not been able to purchase food and basic necessities. We are working to distribute emergency food to those who have needs during this time. We will also be distributing food and supplies to victims of Tropical Storm Amanda.
We are working on responding to the needs of Tropical Storm Amanda victims now, as well as covering the needs of our clients for the duration of the COVID-19 health and economic crisis. We have several crucial needs to meet during this time to assure that those who are vulnerable are receiving the best possible care, and there are several ways that you can be involved.
