Sharing a story is no small thing.

Earlier this month, Jon and I stood in front of a packed room to share pieces of our story, and pieces of our clients’ stories all woven together. Sharing a story is a sacred and holy thing. Especially when those stories pull in pains and joys and successes and heartaches.

We were at our 2nd Annual Gala for Growth and the purpose of sharing those stories was to remind us all that we are part of one big community, we all have a part in that story.

Our gala was held just north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh is far removed from the streets of San Salvador but there is still a community there because so many who packed that room have given, have prayed, have encouraged, have sacrificed, and have hoped for our clients. There is a connection that crosses miles and lifetimes. Some in that room were hearing stories for the first time, others leaned in for updates, still others wiped tears at the pictures of beloved faces.

I am truly grateful that I am trusted with the sacred task of story-telling. I’m honored to hear stories and to pass them on to you. Some stories are so hard, but they make my voice shake because they are so full of hope and freedom.

Thank you for your part. Thank you for listening. Thank you for weaving your own story in to ours. Your support throughout this year has meant all the difference in the world.

Compartir una historia no es algo pequeño.

A principio de este mes, Jon y yo estuvimos frente a un salón completamente lleno para compartir un poco acerca de nuestra historia, y de las historias que hemos entretejido junto a nuestros clientes. Compartir una historia es algo sagrado y santo. Especialmente cuando las historias tienen dolores, alegrías, éxitos y angustias.

Nos encontrábamos en nuestra 2^da “Gala para el Crecimiento” anual, y el propósito de compartir aquellas historias fue para recordarnos que todos somos parte de una gran comunidad, y que todos estamos involucrados en esta historia.

Nuestra gala se llevó a cabo al norte de Pittsburgh, Pensilvania. Pittsburgh es una ciudad lejos de las calles de San Salvador, pero es como tener ahí una comunidad salvadoreña porque muchas personas en ese salón han contribuido, han orado, han animado, han sacrificado, y comparten esperanzas para nuestros clientes. En estos momentos, todos ellos han aprendido y han sido inspirados también por nuestros clientes. Existe una conexión que enlaza la distancia y la vida. Algunos en el salón estaban escuchando las historias por primera vez, otros se actualizaban de los hechos, otros se limpiaban sus lágrimas cuando veían las fotos de caras conocidas muy queridas.

Estoy verdaderamente agradecida de que se me confíe la tarea sagrada de contar historias. Me siento honrada de escuchar historias y de poder trasladarlas a ustedes. Algunas historias son muy duras, pero hacen temblar mi voz porque están llenas de esperanza y libertad.
