We just got back from a week long family vacation in Roatan, Honduras. It was the first time in five years of living here that we have gotten away with just our kids. We were able to connect with them after a busy few months, clear our heads of burnout and ministry worries, and spend a whole week not even talking about work stuff. The kids loved having us to themselves, and they declared it their “best trip ever.”
I think that we all needed it, and the fact that we are so close to the Caribbean gave us a beautiful place to rest and recharge. We had the island nearly to ourselves since we slipped in at the end of the low season before cruise ships and crowds take over.
The kids and I spent our mornings on the saltwater inlet and the beach looking for hermit crabs, building sandcastles, and snorkeling while Jon was scuba diving. Afternoons were spent lounging by the nearly vacant swimming pool along the age of beautiful woods filled with birds and flowers.
All of us love nature, and the kids especially loved exploring all the fish and plants in the water. The evenings were calm and low-key and each evening I sat on the terrace talking to God and listening to the waves. He is so good to our family…sometimes He speaks to us in the middle of it all, and sometimes He speaks quietly in the rest.
We had a little stretch of beach all to ourselves just outside of our back doorstep.
Our kids are the best, and they are such good friends.
Total peace and quiet by the ocean…
The last full day that we were in Roatan, we rented a car to visit the Roatan Museum and Marine Institute (including a dolphin show) in Anthony’s Key, and had lunch and spent some time on West Bay beach…absolutely beautiful water!
Beautiful pictures–so glad you guys got some R & R!!
