This past Sunday afternoon we took a picnic lunch and headed out to the local Mayan ruins. Some are still in the excavation process, but still very interesting to see. These ruins are approximately 3,000 years old. I’ve never seen any buildings that old in my life! It was very hot and dry! The rainy season is still a few months off but things are getting pretty dusty around here!

A view from the "Grand Plaza" area which would have been where crowds gathered in front of these temple/tomb step pyramids.

Running across the 3,000 year old ruins! Not every kid can say that!

This one is still in the excavation process...the huge base is still covered in grass.

So old, but very interesting!

There was a concrete miniature step pyramid in the national park with the ruins. This "playgroud" definitely would not meet U.S. safety standards but the kids had a fun time jumping down the sides and sliding on the concrete slides.

Tori had fun showing off her dance moves at the top of the pyramid.

Ian loved the tunnels...it was a pretty awesome playground!
The twins know they’re part-Maya, so they want to come climb on those (and the volcano, since they’ve seen my pix). Can’t wait to fund-raise for a family-wide missions trip… should be fun, right? 😉
Yes! Definitely come on a family mission trip! My kids would show them to all of their favorite spots!
